It’s been quite a day at Fatboy’s house today. Things got started at 6am with the morning routine of fixing Beautiful a sandwich for lunch, having my omelet, and even went the extra mile to start cleaning the kitchen. I even got to kill 2 cockroaches, one of which induced screaming by a certain someone.
Prophetically, the bug guy called after lunch to say he was going to be doing his client visits in the area tomorrow. I wonder if those buggers were part of a conspiracy to come out exactly this morning to make me continue with the bug guy. I’m pretty sure he said he just does outside spraying or trouble areas after the annual visit we’ve already had, so he should just spray around the living room and the downstairs bathroom.
At about 9:30, FedEx was at our door with our package of awareness bands – all 500 of them! Then the goal for the day was to continue working on my client’s site, but stopping before I normally would with the goal of opening the store tonight. At about 3pm, I asked for a guinea pig to test things because you can’t go through the system as the owner of the items.
Negativo. No dice. Things weren’t working. At some point the night before, I’d broken it by going in and editing code like a code monkey does, only not acting like the coding pro that I am. It didn’t take too long to restore the original files and systematically made the changes I had made the night before, without any guessing this time around. I got through all of the changes that I thought I’d made the night before, only this time the store was still working! Yay!
The store went live as I was making some changes to the interface to try to make it more user-friendly and less confusing. A few things have been improved with a couple of items left to look into after reading the feedback from my guinea pig. We stayed up until 11pm watching the orders and site stats to see when people went to the store and if they went to the shopping cart. Darn near broke out the popcorn to make it a date, but we just watched.
I went through the process again and it is a lot smoother. ๐ New rating 10!
Thanks for the feedback and affirming our small changes. I think I still want to see about removing the drop-down from the cart entirely and add a state drop-down the account information section so the value will be the state abbreviation in the system.
