200th Article: Changing the Standard of Thinking

Well, we’ve done it! Fatboy has 200 cystic fibrosis posts out to press since March that have changed my life and many of yours, and I couldn’t have done it without you reading, commenting, and spurring each other on to become better than we were the day before. Sure, there are times of two steps forward and one step back, but think of where you and I were when we started, each at our own time. We’ve encouraged and informed until our collective body is better for wear rather than letting nature take its course on us.

Congrats! Sit back and relax (if you can) for this long, evolving brain dump with an excellent climax and conclusion that won’t disappoint. (Or you can join my Changing the Standard of Thinking campaign now, knowing you want to without reading this).

Time for a major change

If there is one thing certain about my life it is: your life will always be in a state of change, no matter how hard you try to stabilize everything. I started this site with the two-fold goal of journaling my journey to 23BMI and to test the waters to see how I handled essentially “coming out of the closet” about my CF in a much more public way than ever before. My weight has come back down the low to mid 120s, but my doctor is very happy with things as they are, and other life events are preventing me from keeping eating as my primary full-time job. In order to ensure being able to put any food on the table, I’ve had to concentrate on completing the work that is scheduled and leave eating to mealtimes. But there is good change in the air…

Happy Six Month No-IV Anniversary to Fatboy

Anniversary from IVsI was going to do a quick shout-out, but that wouldn’t show my happy happy title, so here goes a real post for a short little thing: my 6-month no IV anniversary! In the last 6 months, the following has happened regarding my health/work/etc:

  • gained 16lbs from my previous lifetime high in March
  • hit my goal of 23 BMI
  • graduated COLLEGE with my B.A. after 13 years
  • improved my PFTs from 34% after IVs in March to 37% now
  • had my best month of business ever this summer

While we are very glad to see my new CF friends get their new lungs (green in my blogroll in the sidebar), others are struggling with infections of various kinds and severity, so Beautiful and I do take every day of my new health with a new-found appreciation that wasn’t possible with my old quality of life and try to not let the small things bother us.

Fatboy vs. 23 BMI – Fatboy Wins!

135.5 PoundsThursday night, Fatboy registered a 135.5 on the bathroom scale! I made a big deal about it on Facebook with photos of the scale and my big gut hanging over my always-unbuttoned shorts, but I’m holding back here a little bit before I declare victory because I appear to be retaining water. It didn’t stop me from opening up my iPhone app to plug in the numbers to come up with my BMI and confirm that it was 23.2 BMI with my 5′ 4″ stature. Fatboy has arrived in the house!

My ankles and calves were swollen Thursday and Friday for some reason; nearly disgustingly on my legs where something may have been pressing into my flesh for a while and then I get up. The mark stayed indented far further than is considered natural, normal, or tolerable to look at.

100th Mark – Something Special

100th Thank YouI had an article all lined up for tonight’s midnight posting until I realized that today was a milestone: 100 articles/posts! We’ve come a long way together from me being Semi-Skinnyboy when this started in March until now.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for reading, subscribing, commenting, Facebook friending, and tweeting with me. Like I’ve said, before March, I didn’t even have CF, so to have so many new friends with a common “interest” is amazing. Opening this door to my life has somehow opened a door to my heart and my head at the same time.

I am in better shape than years, I’ve never looked this good before (Beautiful sort of said it, not me), and my outlook on the future has never been better. For these things that I’m grateful for, you have had a part in. You’ve kept me accountable to do what I’ve set out to do by coming back every day and checking in to see how things are. I even got e-mails when I stopped weighing myself every day to see why I’d stopped.

Over there in the sidebar, I’ve got my list of the top articles on the site. That list is generated by actual hits of the articles on the site, but I want to know:

Which is your favorite article and why?

Was it the style? How it made you feel? Did it inspire you? Did it just connect with you because you feel the same way? Lemme know, and we can have an even better next 100!
