Three Moments That Have Changed My Life

“Moments make the man.”

If that’s not a real quote by a really famous person yet, I declare it to be mine now. Actions speak louder than words, but it’s the moments at which both happen that change people, nay, change history. When a fire comes through and destroys the landscape, new growth comes in. Think of those fires as “moments” and the new growth as the men and women that make things happen from the bleak situation.

Where would we be without The Gettysburg Address, “I Have a Dream,” or Thomas Edison’s final material test that brought about the lightbulb? Thankfully, Edison lost the war between DC and AC current powering the world’s power grid, but now I’m just bragging about my love of engineering history.

I’ve been called an optimist more times on this site than in my entire life, but I can assure you, I have a deep, dark side that I do everything in my power to keep under control and undercover for the sake of Beautiful and those whom I’m trying to help. Some bloggers do this dark blogging as a release, an outlet, under monikers or anonymously, which I do not fault them for in the least. I’ve made Beautiful sad on more than a few occasions in these first 80 articles/posts, as I’m sure I’ve done the same to my parents and in-laws through my writing.

That’s right, we are up over 80 now, and I thank you all for your loyal readership.

So… what are Fatboy’s Top Three Moments?

Constant Reminders from New Friends

Donate LifeI’ve said on here a number of times that my/our plan is to never need a lung transplant, but with all of these bloggers (at least 4 have happened since I started CF Fatboy) we’ve found recently who are finally getting their new lungs/lives at the same time, it makes one wonder; wonder a lot of things. This is just about my wonderings, as things are doing great and getting better every week or month. There is always that “what if” in the back of my mind. It will never go away; I know myself too well to hope that I can put it out of my mind for good.

I have a lot of things going for us no matter the outcome of therapy method: cure or transplant. I own my own business, so hopefully we can have enough in savings to tide us over for any time I’d be down for the count. Even though most of the ordeal seems to be over in 2-4 weeks, we’d have so many one-hour trips to Tampa General it wouldn’t even be funny for trying to keep “office” hours… not like I really stick to office hours anyway with the trips I already have to take.

I am sure my clientele would be more than willing to work with me because I have the best clients in the world. They are delighted that I reply to e-mails same-day, even same-minute sometimes. If I’m out of commission for something that big, everything will be fine, and it might even be good for business. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Who wouldn’t want to have their Web guy be “The double-lung transplanted WordPress guru of WordPress people?” That’s like wearing your Purple Heart next to your Medal of Honor.

Fatboy – The Return of Fat

I had a topic all picked out and figured out in my head during our 8-hour trip to Atlanta, but I’m calling an audible. I’m writing this in the evening for a midnight posting to take care of Sunday’s post.

The original intent with this site was to chronicle my success in gaining weight, but I’ve been stagnant for a while because of the stress of college graduation. I lost nearly 10lbs without realizing it before it was too late but to try to stop the loss there. I was hovering around 112-115 for weeks.

This week, with the help of Megase and Boost Plus to the tune of an extra 1,300 Calories per day, I weighed 123 last night before bed – my usual weigh-in time to maximize my efforts for the day. Today, after a day of driving, snacking, and a monster plate of three enchiladas at Pappasito’s Cantina, I busted out 126.8 on the gym scale in the fitness center!

NOTE: 7:15am Sunday: I weighed in at 122.8: a net gain of 2.8lbs in one day.

That makes me pretty darn happy to finally see results from all of that eating.

Oh, and Piper Beatty got new lungs today (Saturday June 12th)!

Packing for Vacation Is Huge with Cystic Fibrosis

PackingWe are off to the Smoky Mountains at 6am Saturday!

Preparation started days ago with the clothing and suitcase items, but now Beautiful is sitting at the table filling my weekly pill container for next week after dumping tomorrow’s meds on the counter for me to take in the morning. We’ve got a box of snacks for Day 1 of driving, Day 2 of driving, and a stash to keep safe for our drive back home so we don’t eat it all while we’re there. I think I’m supposed to down about 20,000 calories on Day 1 of driving by the looks of what we’ve got in there!

Since eating is a full-time job for me, we went over the menu for the week since there is a full kitchen and are taking turns making meals. We figured out what things we needed to supplement with more food for me without bothering everyone else. Wouldn’t want the whole family coming home rolly-polly now, would we? Some days, it was an omelet after breakfast, others, it was a snack or a Stouffer’s lasasgna. I’ll be taking Megase all week, so the eating extra really shouldn’t be a problem, and since my biggest fear is losing weight, we are taking care of that. If all goes well, I’ll be fat and happy when we get back next weekend.

We’ve packed the Vest, put nebulizer vials in baggies for either the box orย  cooler, filled the pill container, gathered my enzymes, set out my inhalers, and put my eFlows on the armrest of the couch instead of properly back in their place in the basket. I gathered any possible narcotics I might need, as well as my Ambien for a really good night’s sleep every night.

Beautiful was really surprised that I wanted to bring my Vest along because of my strong determination to be normal, but it makes such a difference now that I’ve been doing it, I don’t want to risk having a week-long wheeze just because we left it here. It comes with a nice travel roller for the airports and everything, even though we’re driving. Where I’ll do it or how we’ll work out when I do it is still up in the air, but we’re bringing it.

Monday will be a regular installment of “Things CFers Do” followed by the week’s activities if no one minds non-CF articles. Speak now or for the rest of the week, hold your peace.
