The Fox – a.k.a John the Unknown Cystic out West (@UnknownCystic) had been down lateley. He’s been kicking himself for not handling an ER visit the right way and letting frustration get the best of him. He HATES having cystic fibrosis, but let’s step back and take things in perspective. John, I’m beginning to value as a friend up on the upper tiers of friends whom I’ve never met by now. We are transparent, and you can read a LOT into the soul of the person writing when we have dialogue like this going back and forth.

I am here to uplift and edify you today, if you don’t mind, because I feel like it’s what needs to be done today… at 1:30am EST on vacation, in bed, trying to keep Beautiful asleep. Okay, you know how serious I am now.

I don’t know about your religion, politics, or even your exact profession.

You have my respect.

Constant Reminders from New Friends

Donate LifeI’ve said on here a number of times that my/our plan is to never need a lung transplant, but with all of these bloggers (at least 4 have happened since I started CF Fatboy) we’ve found recently who are finally getting their new lungs/lives at the same time, it makes one wonder; wonder a lot of things. This is just about my wonderings, as things are doing great and getting better every week or month. There is always that “what if” in the back of my mind. It will never go away; I know myself too well to hope that I can put it out of my mind for good.

I have a lot of things going for us no matter the outcome of therapy method: cure or transplant. I own my own business, so hopefully we can have enough in savings to tide us over for any time I’d be down for the count. Even though most of the ordeal seems to be over in 2-4 weeks, we’d have so many one-hour trips to Tampa General it wouldn’t even be funny for trying to keep “office” hours… not like I really stick to office hours anyway with the trips I already have to take.

I am sure my clientele would be more than willing to work with me because I have the best clients in the world. They are delighted that I reply to e-mails same-day, even same-minute sometimes. If I’m out of commission for something that big, everything will be fine, and it might even be good for business. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Who wouldn’t want to have their Web guy be “The double-lung transplanted WordPress guru of WordPress people?” That’s like wearing your Purple Heart next to your Medal of Honor.

Skip Treatments While on Vacation

This entry is part [part not set] of 19 in the series What CFers Do

DrivingI’m doing my best and will continue to do my best this trip, but I’ve been a bad boy most of my life – certainly my adult life. Vacation is not the time to be sitting around nebulizing and such, eh? So far, so good on this trip, though.

I remember our annual Spring Break trips to our time share in Tennessee involved bringing my aerosol compressor, but I don’t recall having to do chest PT because back in the day, that meant Mom and Dad had to do it, and they were on vacation, too.

When I spent a week in Colorado Springs back in 2002, I’m pretty sure I only brought my inhalers… probably not the best idea, considering the altitude. I did fine, though, and that’s why I never worried about treatments for a few days. Or weeks. Or months. Until I got sick and went on IVs.

Back just after we got married, the only thing we brought was my Albuterol and Pulmozyme with my ailing eFlow that took 30 minutes to dispense the meds. I was not into that at all and probably only did 1/5 of my treatments. I also didn’t do my Vest back in the day because, well, I think the Hill-Rom vest is a piece of crap forcing you to hold down a pneumatic switch to make it run. What moron thought up that idea: an active switch for a passive treatment? /end rant

Lesson learned – the hard way

Fatboy – The Return of Fat

I had a topic all picked out and figured out in my head during our 8-hour trip to Atlanta, but I’m calling an audible. I’m writing this in the evening for a midnight posting to take care of Sunday’s post.

The original intent with this site was to chronicle my success in gaining weight, but I’ve been stagnant for a while because of the stress of college graduation. I lost nearly 10lbs without realizing it before it was too late but to try to stop the loss there. I was hovering around 112-115 for weeks.

This week, with the help of Megase and Boost Plus to the tune of an extra 1,300 Calories per day, I weighed 123 last night before bed – my usual weigh-in time to maximize my efforts for the day. Today, after a day of driving, snacking, and a monster plate of three enchiladas at Pappasito’s Cantina, I busted out 126.8 on the gym scale in the fitness center!

NOTE: 7:15am Sunday: I weighed in at 122.8: a net gain of 2.8lbs in one day.

That makes me pretty darn happy to finally see results from all of that eating.

Oh, and Piper Beatty got new lungs today (Saturday June 12th)!
