Changing the standard of thinking.

Grease: The Great Evil of My Day

FearSome people have insane cravings for fast food, and thus they have incredible amounts of jealousy toward my food intake requirement. They think, “I could eat at McDonald’s every day and not look like the fat slob I am or am trying to avoid becoming.” I know they are thinking that because:

  1. I can see it in their eyes and the little dribble of drool coming out of the corner of their mouth at the mere thought of a burger.
  2. Some have flat-out told me so, including the fat slob part (I wasn’t just being mean).

This all goes back to my article on eating being a full-time job in that respect, however this is more about the consequences of eating like “normal” people in an attempt to gain weight. You see, when normal people (i.e., always referring to non-CFers on this site – having nothing to do with their gray matter) consume copious amounts of fats and sugars their body says “YES! Give me more! I can eat this and make a spare tire out of it or give you thunder thighs.” We all know that’s not what any normal person wants, but it’s reality unless they are a fitness freak or have an abnormally high metabolism for a (ahem!) normal person.

Here’s what happens to me: “Uggghhhh!” I get a 30+ hour stomach ache. I had a cheeseburger with plenty of enzymes yesterday, nearly 31 hours ago, and I can still feel the effects. I’m getting punched in the stomach every few minutes. I feel like I have to go to the bathroom when I don’t.

Just out of curiosity, I posed the issue to my CF Twitter pals with “Does anyone else get “greasy stomach ache” from burger fast foods only? Hot wings: fine. Chili: fine. 1 burger: blech!” and got the following responses:

  • @cf_gurl: I throw up every single time I have ever eaten a fast food burger…Most other fast food I can handle…
  • @nanosmakemepuke: I do sometimes. Beer is usually good to cut the grease ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • @UnknownCFer: The Wendy’s triple is a quick trip to stomach ache hell for me. Can’t take enough enzymes to cover that fatty mess.

I see I’m not alone in this greasy mess I’ve created for myself. I have known this food to do this for years, yet I still eat it when presented with a fast food menu (as if I’m going to order ground up chicken parts molded into nuggets). I think this may be the turning point. I’m done with fast food burgers if there are any other alternatives because this sucks! I’ll have Beautiful remind me forevermore in a not-so-gentle way if I forget today at some point in the future.

An Informational Breakthrough

Bills, bills, billsWe’ve been receiving medical bills in the mail since March, and it’s been freaking us out. We assumed it was because my Vest got written off from last year, we had not met our deductible and everyone was cashing in all at once. Each had to be the first to get their money before we met our out-of-pocket limit. It was a logical conclusion, but not correct.

When in doubt, look at your policy

We finally started looking over our policy during dinner last night. After we got to the correct page, we were still dumb-founded for a little while until certain words stuck out: calendar year. Since my company insurance (same health insurance as I have now) was based on the company open-enrollment date of April to April, we had assumed that the deductible resets on April 1st. Wrong. The deductible re-starts in January, BUT the good news is that the Vest write-off ended up being a life-saver.

This is going to be a good year

So, this year we will be done with medical expenses, minus co-pays and premiums now, plus the time it takes us to pay these guys the money they’ve invoiced us for. It shouldn’t be long at all because business is really picking up again after taxes and graduation is in 2 weeks from today!

We hate surprise bills, and it looks like this is the end of them. One more is on the way – and maybe one more after that one, but that’s it for the year.

The plan for next year

We are going to set up another savings account to fill with our maximum out-of-pocket expenses for next year so we can just pay out from there when the time comes in 2011. I’ve got me a smart woman, wouldn’t you say? Beautiful is a babe and a brain.

Donโ€™t Let Backsliding Discourage You

Don't be discouragedThings are looking way up from just 10 days ago nary two quarters to rub together in our business account after paying both our taxes and the estimated quarterly tax payment. It wasn’t going to be a fun month if I couldn’t bring in what I normally pay myself, but everything is running like a well-oiled machine now, and we are ahead of plans if everything arrives. “The check is in the mail,” they say.

I got on the scale this morning and was already 122lbs for the day. Now that I’ve had my lunch and a 20oz Gatorade, I’m feeling downright heavy. Today should be a good, good day for my weight.

What changed?

I’ve had to change several things in the last week to bounce back.

Over 120lbs Again

I got all of my big money client work done in the last three days, and with the money rolling in from that, the stress level has dropped to nearly zero. My appetite is back with a vengeance today and I can work on a couple of other projects and (hopefully) tackle some more Spanish.

I’m sorry, but that’s about all I have time for with this post today. Things are still really cranked with graduation approaching; it’s just a less stressful without partially pre-paid client work that needs to be completed.
