Changing the standard of thinking.

BMI: 21.04

I need to read up on customizing the posts for certain categories so these can just be a title and photo. I am a Thesis theme designer, after all. Stay tuned for some major site changes as soon as I get that worked out.

Anyway, I hit 21.04 tonight, which was not my high weight for the day, I can assure you. The 21 barrier has been broken, at last! Onward and upward to 22 this week.

The Body We All Want

I had a profound thought today while admiring my new physique in the mirror before hopping in the shower after my gym workout (no, it was not a full-length mirror; I was not checking that out). My collarbones are gone. I don’t look swollen, yet my trunk is sticking out from my hips. My neck was so big on Sunday that the dress shirt I bought for an occasion last May almost refused to button up all the way.

Ready for the profound thought? Here it comes:

Men marry women hoping she stays the same. Women marry men hoping they can change him.

I am finally happy with my body now, 30lbs more than our wedding day. My wife has even lost some weight that I unintentionally contributed to her with my crazy “see food” diet over 4 years of dating. Look out Ken and Barbie!

Pork-Out Weekend

We sure had a fun weekend of sun, food, and exercise. It was our first trip to the beach in 2010 and I escaped burn-free by assuming my usual position under the palm trees in my reclining beach chair, munching on trail mix and drinking Gatorade. What a time! The weather was perfect (84 with 5mph breeze) and we were there just long enough to make it worth the drive.

Sunday was my piggy went to market day and I balanced it out with an incredible amount of exercise. Exercise like I haven’t done in… years. The in-laws got DDR Hottest Dance Party 2 for Christmas ’09, but I probably didn’t play more than 10-15 minutes back then and not again since. I busted out moves for at least 30 minutes yesterday, much to the protesting of my left calf. Apparently someone behind me thought I’d want a record of my efforts; I found this on my iPhone when I went to e-mail myself my BMI photo. I think it’s time to get DDR for our house!

Dinner was the Easter usual pork roast and potatoes. I’d already eaten lunch and snacks all afternoon, but I was ready for more. I accidentally left one of my Boost Plus in their fridge, but I had more at home, so I got another one down before bedtime. Thinking that I had a pretty good day of eating and feeling bigger than ever, I thought it was time to check my BMI.

Yeah, that’s a new record! I’m not sure what’s up with the scale vs. Wii BMI, but this should be an all-time high weight for me, but it was a tie. You’d think that the BMI and weight would match on any given day, but it must not have been in recent days, since this is a BMI record.

Anyway, onward and upward to 125lbs!

Hope

Empty TombToday is Easter Sunday, a day of hope and restoration for millions who have put their trust in Jesus Christ for their eternity. Faith seems to be another major difference among us with CF. I’ve seen blogs proclaiming a living faith in Jesus and others who just go on “hoping” each day for a good day and others who are angry at the world.

I have to agree with one of my Cyster’s posts that I read this week right before she went in for her lung transplant. I don’t have it in front of me, but it read something like “Either I was going to be breathing like I hadn’t in years in a couple of days or like I never have before with my Maker tonight.”

There is a comfort knowing what the eternal future holds, even if the immediate future is unclear. None of us knows what tomorrow holds. Just because we have CF doesn’t mean a traffic accident or crime won’t take us away from our loved ones. If you died today, where would you spend eternity?

Happy Easter everyone. He is risen!
